Dark Secrets of Albion-4.3.2.If It’s Not Yours, Do

4.3.2. If It’s Not Yours, Don’t Touch
Some games are designed to reward all the experience to the person that lands the killing
blow on a monster. In Camelot, experience is rewarded to everyone that had a hand in
dealing damage (or healing damage dealt to someone dealing damage) toward killing the
monster. The only benefit gained from landing the killing blow is the right to pick up any
loot the monster may drop. In most cases, there is nothing but a few coin to be gained
from this. Add into the fact that this particular behavior is explicitly forbidden by Mythic,
and a lot of people are not afraid to report it makes "kill stealing" a very frowned-on
practice. I don’t recommend it.

The NOHELP flag
A side-step to the "kill steal" method some have used to earn experience in the past was
to sit aside and heal someone else while they were killing a monster. There is a flag that
was introduced to specifically combat this practice, /nohelp – it prevents anyone from
healing, buffing or generally "helping" someone while they are playing.

Dark Secrets of Albion-4.4.Places to Hunt

4.4. Places to Hunt

There are plenty of places to hunt in Camelot. I’ll

cover here some of the more common

ones. Not because I don’t know any super-secret

ones, but because the super-secret

ones are too dangerous, or the reward for killing

the monsters there is not worth the risk.

I’ll break this up into four parts, the four expansions,

and list the common name of the

spot, the zone and rough location, directions to get

there, and what you can expect, and

for levels 1 – 50. Keep in mind, however, that some

classes can be more effective

hunting other monsters.

Dark Secrets of Albion-4.3.1.Protect Your Cleric!

4.3.1. Protect Your Cleric!

Do this always! In both the literal sense – if you’re

a class that has the Protect ability, use

it. The ability transfers monster hate from the

target to yourself, and monsters hate

healers. Also, keep an eye on the cleric. Don’t

assume everything is allright. If

something is beating on your healer, kill it, get it

off, stop it, stun it, do something, and do it

fast. Trust me, you’ll be better off for it.

Dark Secrets of Albion-4.3.PVE Etiquette

4.3. PVE Etiquette

There are some unspoken rules when you’re killing monsters. There are some spoken
ones too, actually. It’s simply not polite to start hitting on a monster that someone else is
trying to kill, aka "leeching." In fact, there are explicit rules against that sort of thing. It’s
sort of rude to run into a spot someone else is already at and start killing their monsters.
Sort of a "wait your turn" thing. Generally, be polite.
There are some things that need a little explanation, because you will earn the respect,
awe, and admiration of your group mates if you do them. Please, read on.

Dark Secrets of Albion-4.2.-3 Typical Group Dynami

Caster/CC Group
A Caster or CC (crowd control) group is usually what ends up happening in Albion, as it’s
one of the slower-paced methods for gaining experience, though very steady, and very
safe. Essentially, a group of monsters are pulled, and one of the casters in the group will
use various forms of crowd control to stop the monsters while everyone concentrates
dealing damage to one monster at a time. Usually, a "tank" will break the CC on one
monster, hit it a few times and then the casters and other melee in the group will kill it.
Some things to remember when you’re in a CC or Caster group:

Tank Group
A tank group is the hardest or easiest group to play, depending on what you’re trying to
kill. These sorts of groups usually form when there are no casters around, or when the
casters around don’t have any notable form of CC spells available. Essentially what
happens is a combination of a PBAE group and a CC group. A monster, or a group of
monsters are pulled, and instead of pulling them all to one place, or waiting for them to be
rooted, each tank will hit one once or twice, and then maneuver around until all the
monsters are in front of the tanks, and then all the tanks will concentrate on killing one
monster at a time.
What you should do:

PBAE Group
A PBAE (point-blank area effect) group relies on a PBAE caster, usually an Ice Wizard,
but could also be a Death Servant Necromancer to deal a vast majority of the damage to
the monsters. Any melees in the group are responsible for keeping the monsters off the
caster and healers, but as close to the caster as possible, as PBAE is most powerful right
on top of the caster.
Some key points to remember when playing in a PBAE group:

4.2. Typical Group Dynamics
Albion has roughly three types of groups you’ll encounter in PVE. It’s sometimes hard to
determine what kind you’re in as people usually come and go, and depending on who’s in
the group, or even what spec some people in the group are can change the type of group
you find yourself in.
The types are determined by not who is in them, however, but what whoever is in them
does. Not all types of groups are as simple to be in as others. In fact, some, like a PBAE
group, requires you to be especially alert to what’s going on. I’ll list the types of groups,
and some of the pros, cons, and what exactly each type of player should be doing.

Dark Secrets of Albion-4.1.How Experience Works

Like just about every other game in the genre, to gain levels, you must earn experience.
Killing monsters is the original (though not the only way) to earn "XP" (experience).
There’s a lot talk this way or that on what makes the best XP in the game. Camelot is
originally designed to almost force players to group together to be effective, in Albion
especially. There are very few classes that can solo well. What I’ll do here is take a brief
moment and focus on how the experience earned is distributed, solo, or in a group
dynamic, across levels and more. It’s important to know, if you want to truly manage to
level quickly.
Splitting the Experience vs. Hitting Your Cap
I won’t begrudge you with mathematics (here), but boil down earning experience into a
few bullet points.

Dark Secrets of Albion-4.The PVE Grind

Camelot is, in the end, about the realm war. But that doesn’t mean that the leveling
aspect of the game isn’t or can’t be fun. In fact, an entire server has been set aside for
people that can’t get enough of killing the same monsters, over and over (on a side note,
another server has been set aside for people who want to kill other people any time, any
where). The "PVE" (player vs. environment) grind, as it’s referred to, alludes to the notion
that you must be level 50 before you can really be effective in the realm war. Sadly, this is
becoming more and more true. Your spells will hit, and your swords will slash, but you will
die far too quickly to truly be effective at sub-50 levels. All of that means you get to spend
some quality time killing monsters!
