DAOC
What is the difference between Eden and Blackthorn?
Eden and Blackthorn are separate DAOC freeshards with significantly different server philosophies and gameplay systems.
Eden is a heavily customized DAOC experience with its own progression, RvR systems and content. Eden currently uses a New Frontiers-based RvR environment, with Classic and Shrouded Isles content and its own customized systems.
Blackthorn, on the other hand, is designed around a more classic DAOC with reworked Old Frontiers. Its core focus is classic-style RvR, realm pride and a 1.65-inspired ruleset, combined with modern quality-of-life improvements.
A simple way to think about the two is:
| Eden | Blackthorn | |
|---|---|---|
| Overall style | Customized modern freeshard | Classic+ |
| RvR | New Frontiers-based and custom content (Arena) | Reworked Old Frontiers |
| Progression | Customized progression | Classic-inspired progression |
| Content | Classic + Shrouded Isles + ToA (no MLs or artifacts) and custom content | Classic-focused, with custom additions |
| Seasons | Seasonal model | No seasons |
| Main focus | Modern/custom DAoC experience | Classic DAoC experience |
Which server should I choose?
It depends on the type of DAOC experience you prefer.
Choose Eden if you prefer a more customized and fast-paced freeshard experience with additional systems and content.
Choose Blackthorn if you prefer the classic DAOC atmosphere, enhanced with modern quality-of-life improvements, featuring reworked Old Frontiers with new keep models and improved map geography.
Important: Eden Platinum and Blackthorn Platinum are completely separate products. Make sure you purchase the product for the server you actually play on.
